The President of Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), Rev. Dr. Dachollom Datiri has said growing insecurity in Nigeria is “embarrassing”.
The Church leader said, Tuesday at the 99th General Church Council GCC meeting of the Church in Jos, that terror activities across the country suggest government is “colluding” with terrorists, confused or a failed government.”
Rev. Dr. Datiri said government must rise up to her responsibility to prevent terrorists from overrunning the country.
“The whole nation is already engulfed in this miserable situation and the lives of countless innocent families in Nigeria have been impoverished as well as plunged into extreme traumatic conditions.
“Unfortunately Government seems unconcerned. For us, by this coming Wednesday 19th May, Rev. Polycarp Zongo will be seven months in the hands of his captors among others. Our hearts have continued to bleed all this while, but to no avail.”
Datiri added that attacks on Communities are already engulfing the whole nation as most states of Nigeria are affected. He named Plateau, Southern Kaduna, Benue, Taraba, Zamfara, Niger, South Eastern state, South Western states, the North East among others as flashpoints.
“What has happened to the professional Nigerian army that is praised for its clinical and successful roles in keeping peace in other countries? And what has happened to our Police force? Is our security overwhelmed? Or has our security been commandeered to pursue the agenda of the terrorists? These are questions the Nigerian Government must answer” he said.
“Inflation is hitting hard. Families are no longer able to afford two square meals a day. The hardship is palpable and Government must rise up to the occasion. Our economic policy as a country needs a complete overhaul” he added.
In a goodwill message, Governor Simon Lalong of the State who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Sonni Tyoden congratulated the Church for the successful election of her new Vice President, and called on the leaders to uphold the truth and shine the light of Christ for others to follows.
While soliciting prayers for government, Lalong said governance in challenging times as now is no easy task.
